“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,

and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Isaiah 7:14

A mother gently cradles a baby in a sepia-toned portrait. Both wear head coverings, evoking a tender, serene mood against a textured background.

No verse in all of scripture means as much to Christians as this one. For centuries prior to the birth of Christ, world religions had never fathomed a “god” who was present with them every moment of their lives. The best they could offer was temporary emotional relief by appeasing their wrath with sacrifices of property and human sacrifices, even children. Think of it!

God With Us, Yesterday, Today, and Forever

But Jesus, the perfect Son of God, God incarnate, became our human sacrifice! He offered Himself on the cross, once and for all, as our Creator, Redeemer, and ‘God with us’.

Our Immanuel this Christmas is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And He is forever abiding in our hearts, because as He says, ‘No man is able to snatch us from His hands.’  Hallelujah!

This week, let’s pause and “rest” at the feet of Jesus, thanking Him for the unspeakable gift of His presence.

Lord, what a blessed people we are to have You with us every moment: caring, keeping, and guiding our lives. May our lives reflect Your glory and bring honor to Your name. This is our Christmas prayer. Amen.
